Chapter 2 - Installation

Preparation

Before installing Chartist, you need to decide the following:

The directory path for the Chartist files.

Default: C:\Program Files\Chartist

The install program will propose this default selection when it runs. If you want to change it, you may.

Installation

To install Chartist from CD ROM:

  1. Place the distribution CD ROM into the appropriate drive on your system. If you have enabled the Auto Play feature of that drive, the Chartist installation startup page will appear. If it does not, follow these additional steps:
  2. Select the Run... command from the Start Menu.
  3. Type the install command line into the Command Line field of the Run dialog box. For example, if you are loading the distribution CDROM from drive D:, you would type:

    d:setup.exe

into the Command Line field. Press Enter to complete the command.

To install Chartist from a download:

  1. Download the Chartist installation file, and save it to your system.
  2. Locate the download file on your system, using Windows Explorer. The download file is named wcharp43.exe.
  3. Run the download file by double-clicking on it from Windows Explorer.

Network Server Setup

Chartist may be installed and run from a network file server. You must purchase a Network Server License to install on a network file server. When installed Chartist will allow the licensed number of network workstations to run Chartist simultaneously.

Step By Step Instructions For Network Server Setup

  1. Connect your workstation to the network server and drive that you want to use. You must have full read/write privileges for that path.
  2. Run the Chartist installation program, as described above.
  3. When prompted, override the default installation drive and path, with the one for the network server drive.
  4. After installation, from the same machine, retrieve the Chartist product key as described above
  5. From each workstation on the network, locate the shared directory where you installed Chartist. Run the program, netinstall.exe, in that directory. It will setup that machine to access Chartist. A few small files will be copied to that machine, but main part of the program resides on the server.
